Hi, I'm leviyi
Crochet enthusiast, indie developer, and the person behind CrochetPatternGen.
Why I built this
It started with frustration — mine and everyone else's. I kept watching people in the crochet community get burned by the same thing: a gorgeous “pattern” that turned out to be an AI-generated image with instructions that don't add up. Literally — the stitch counts don't add up. People only find out twenty hours in, after buying the yarn and crocheting half a blanket that can't exist.
At the same time, the honest tools felt like they were built for other designers, not for someone who just wants to crochet her cat. Powerful editors with a learning curve, or converters that quietly mangle your photo and never warn you.
So I built the tool I wanted to exist: you upload a photo, and you get a chart you can actually crochet from — every cell a stitch, every color counted, and an honest quality score that tells you when a photo won't convert well. No magic, no hallucination, no pretending. Just math you can check.
This is a one-person project, built in the open. The conversion engine is open source on GitHub, and the same engine is available as an MCP server so AI assistants can use it too.
What I promise
Computed, never hallucinated
Every chart on this site is produced by deterministic image processing — resize, color quantization, grid render. No AI model invents stitches here. The conversion engine is open source, so you can check the math yourself.
Honest labels
Previews are marked as digital previews. Any AI-assisted content is disclosed. We will never show you a photo of a crocheted blanket and claim a chart made it unless someone actually crocheted it.
No fake social proof
No invented ratings, no stock-photo testimonials, no “10,000+ happy users”. The site is new. We'd rather earn trust slowly than borrow it.
A free tier that actually works
The generator, every tool, and every library chart works without an account, an email wall, or a trial countdown. Free charts carry a small watermark — that's the whole catch.
